What would actually happen if they did fail? What are the consequences: immediately? in 6 months? in 3 years? in 10 years?

After last night's action in the senate, I wouldn't so much as vote for Voinovich or Brown as county dog warden, let alone re-election to the senate. Yes, you lost my support (if you even had it in the first place). I don't care if you're running against Fidel Castro... you are not getting my vote.
